WHAT TO EXPECT

The Experience

When you hunt with us, you’ll be in the middle of the best waterfowl hunting anywhere!  The Peace country is renown for the stunning scenery and waterfowl populations that will astound you.

You’ll shoot for Canada goose, snow goose & speckled goose or be aiming at mallards, pintails and widgeons.

McLennan, Alberta is known as the Bird Capital of Canada, as we sit at the junction of three major migratory flyways.  The area has rich and diverse bird communities with a current checklist of 233 species of birds that have been seen within 15 kms of the lake. There is also an Interpretive Centre and Boardwalk.

Our waterfowl hunting season runs from September 1st through October 31st.

Your Hunting Day

– Early to Bed and Early to Rise!

Morning

The early bird gets the ducks (and geese!), so our days start at 4:00 a.m. You may be lucky enough to see the dancing northern lights while enjoying a light breakfast. The morning goose and duck hunt really is exhilarating – thousands of birds fill the sky. There is no shortage of waterfowl – and you’ll be comfortable in our blinds with a great line of sight while our decoys go to work and bring on birds.

Afternoon

When we return from the morning shoot, you can indulge in a tasty brunch and share a few hunting stories.  When you’re done eating you have a few hours to do whatever you like.  Relax, stretch your legs with a nature walk, grab a nap or visit until it’s time to head out for the evening shoot.

Evening

If you haven’t reached your daily limit, the evening is spent field hunting and decoy hinting ducks and geese. Afterwards, we come back to the Lodge for supper and then wind down from an exhausting day of hunting.

COMING TO CANADA

RETURNING HOME

ABOUT ALBERTA

WHAT TO BRING

The key to being comfortable in the fall here in Northern Alberta is to dress in layers.  The morning and evenings are cool, but midday still generates warmth on even cloudy days.

We Suggest:

Polarized sunglasses

Sunscreen

Mosquito Repellant

Waterproof footwear – muck boots work great

Rain suit

Camo face mask (a must). Find one that you can shoot in comfortably where you won’t overheat when the temps are higher

Hunting camo of your choice. Waterproof pants or bibs, jacket, parka, cap, gloves. When the weather is warm and dry you can get by with light pants, hoodie, long sleeve shirt and vest.

Long johns

Light and medium-weight shirt/top/sweater

Blind bag or backpack to carry personal gear in the field

Headlamp that straps over your head or clips on the bill of your cap

PERSONAL GEAR

Medical prescriptions (please ensure you have 3-5 days extra in case of weather or flight delays)

Spare prescription glasses

Personal toiletries – toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, non-scented deodorant etc

Hunting Equipment

12-gauge shotgun

Gun oil and cleaning supplies

Additional Equipment

We have padded, swiveling marsh stools on site that you can use during your stay if you would like to get up close with the mallards in the cattail marshes or beaver ponds.
